Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, during a farewell meeting with Australian High Commissioner Neil Hawkins, lauded Canberra’s constructive role in promoting international peace, particularly in the Middle East, and appreciated his efforts in strengthening Pakistan-Australia relations.
The meeting, held at the Prime Minister’s Office, reflected on the growing partnership between the two nations. PM Shehbaz congratulated Ambassador Hawkins on the successful completion of his tenure and acknowledged his valuable contribution toward enhancing bilateral cooperation and people-to-people ties.
He emphasised Pakistan’s commitment to expanding collaboration with Australia, especially in agriculture, livestock, and the export of premium-quality meat. The Prime Minister also sought Australian expertise to help modernise Pakistan’s agricultural sector and improve productivity and global competitiveness.
Discussing economic progress, PM Shehbaz highlighted the success of deep-rooted structural reforms undertaken over the past eighteen months to stabilise the economy, attract investment, and ensure sustainable growth. He reaffirmed that these reforms would continue to strengthen Pakistan’s economic foundation.
Ambassador Hawkins expressed gratitude for the cooperation and hospitality extended by the government and people of Pakistan, praising the country’s growing diplomatic engagement and leadership in promoting peace across South Asia and the Middle East. He also commended Pakistan’s economic stabilisation efforts and reaffirmed Australia’s commitment to supporting Pakistan in economic development, education, and climate resilience.
The Prime Minister thanked the outgoing High Commissioner for his contributions and expressed optimism that bilateral relations would continue to flourish under his successor, further advancing mutual goals of peace and prosperity.
