Pakistan and Romania reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening defence cooperation as the two nations marked the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations this year. Romanian Ambassador Dan Stoenescu met with Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif in Islamabad on Thursday to review bilateral ties and future collaboration.
The defence minister highlighted Romania’s importance as a valued member of the European Union (EU) and acknowledged its role in building stronger defence relations with Pakistan. He praised Romania’s participation in multinational military exercises hosted by Pakistan, noting that such engagements underscored a shared commitment to regional peace and stability.
Both sides agreed to expand cooperation in the defence sector, with a focus on regular exchanges of experts, closer interaction between defence personnel, and greater institutional collaboration.
Ambassador Stoenescu, for his part, described Pakistan as a key regional player contributing to stability and expressed Romania’s readiness to broaden bilateral defence ties further. The meeting concluded with both countries reaffirming their commitment to maintain dialogue, exchanges, and visits as part of their growing partnership.
