The 2nd Pakistan-China Business Conference is set to take place in Beijing on September 4, coinciding with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to China for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin. The event, organised by the Pakistan Embassy in Beijing in collaboration with the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), Board of Investment, relevant ministries, and provincial departments, aims to strengthen bilateral trade and investment relations.
Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, Khalil Hashmi, stated that preparations for the conference are underway, focusing on addressing queries from Chinese investors and highlighting promising business opportunities in Pakistan. The organisers are finalising participating companies and scheduling matchmaking sessions to ensure productive engagements. Chinese firms will receive detailed briefings on investment incentives, including land acquisition, tax relief, duty exemptions, wage policies, and energy supply arrangements. Pakistani delegates, in turn, will be provided with sector-specific guides outlining opportunities available within China.
Ambassador Hashmi described China as “the New Land of Opportunities” and urged Pakistan to enhance its production capacity and boost exports. The conference will focus on 21 priority sectors identified for deepened cooperation, including manufacturing, petrochemicals, minerals, pharmaceuticals, textiles, leather, and medical equipment.
Last year’s inaugural conference in Shenzhen brought together 105 Pakistani and 250 Chinese companies, culminating in 30 memoranda of understanding (MOUs) and 17 contracts valued at over $100 million. Subsequent matchmaking events and expos in Karachi and Lahore further expanded deals, generating an additional 45 MOUs worth $600 million. Cumulatively, trade agreements signed in the past year have surpassed $1.2 billion, reflecting the growing economic partnership between the two countries.
