The UK’s Air Safety Committee has lifted restrictions on Pakistani carriers following significant improvements in aviation safety standards. However, each Pakistani airline must still apply individually for permits to operate flights to the UK through the UK Civil Aviation Authority.
British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Jane Marriott, appreciated the joint efforts of aviation experts from both countries in raising safety standards. She noted that while flights will take time to resume due to logistical processes, she looks forward to traveling on a Pakistani airline for future visits to family and friends.
The decision to remove Pakistan from the UK Air Safety List was made through an independent aviation safety evaluation, conducted by the UK’s Air Safety Committee. The committee has maintained long-term engagement with the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority to monitor improvements since its initial ban in 2021.
Upon reviewing the progress made, the Committee concluded that Pakistan had met the required safety benchmarks, leading to its removal from the safety list through a technical and impartial process.
With a community of over 1.6 million people of Pakistani origin in the UK and many British nationals in Pakistan, this move is expected to ease family connections and travel.
Additionally, as the UK is Pakistan’s third-largest trade partner with bilateral trade valued at £4.7 billion, improved travel links are likely to further boost economic ties between the two nations.
