The Directorate General of Immigration and Passports (DGI&P) has unveiled redesigned Pakistani passports featuring upgraded security measures and a revised layout aimed at strengthening identity protection and curbing forgery.
According to the official statement, the new passport will now include the mother’s name alongside the father’s name, a move designed to make personal identification more inclusive and transparent. The visa pages have also been redesigned to feature images of historic landmarks representing the cultural heritage of Pakistan’s provinces.
The department clarified that aside from these updates, no major alterations have been made to the existing format. The redesigned passports follow the principles of modernity and harmonisation, ensuring compliance with international standards. Printing of the new passport booklets has already begun after receiving approval from the Ministry of Interior.
Earlier this year, DG Passports Mustafa Jamal Kazi announced the induction of AI-powered passport printing machines capable of producing up to 300 passports per hour. The new system, fully integrated with NADRA’s database, aims to speed up processing, eliminate backlogs, and improve service delivery nationwide.
The DGI&P reiterated that every citizen of Pakistan is entitled to a passport that ensures protection abroad through embassies and consulates, while serving as the sole official proof of identity for international travel.
Meanwhile, the government has also approved a complete redesign of the passport’s appearance, further strengthening its security architecture.
