Putin and Kim among 26 to Attend China’s V-Day commemorations on September 3, according to Assistant Foreign Minister Hong Lei. The Russian President and the DPRK leader will join world leaders in Beijing to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
The invitation comes directly from President Xi Jinping. In addition to Putin and Kim, the guest list includes 24 other heads of state and dignitaries. This diverse group highlights the international significance of the commemoration.
Other confirmed attendees are Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko, Iranian President Masoud Pezashkian, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, and South Korea’s National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik. Furthermore, the United Nations will send Under-Secretary-General Li Junhua as its representative.
On the day of the event, President Xi will inspect tens of thousands of troops in Tiananmen Square. He will stand with the visiting leaders and senior Chinese officials. The parade is expected to be one of the largest in recent years. It will feature fighter jets, missile defence systems, hypersonic weapons, and other advanced military equipment.
The commemorations will not only focus on China’s wartime history. They will also underline Beijing’s growing role in global affairs. By welcoming Putin and Kim among 26 others, China sends a strong message about unity, remembrance, and international cooperation.
In addition, cultural and diplomatic events will run alongside the parade. These will emphasise both historical memory and China’s modern achievements. For many observers, the scale of the events demonstrates how China seeks to combine national pride with global engagement.
With Putin and Kim among 26 to attend China’s V-Day, the celebrations are set to draw worldwide attention, both for their symbolism and for the display of power at Tiananmen Square.
