Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, stated that Pakistan could earn an estimated $10–15 billion annually through maritime activities associated with a proposed ferry service between Gwadar and Oman. He made the remarks during a high-level meeting with Oman’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Fahad bin Sulaiman bin Khalaf Al Kharusi.
During the discussion, both sides agreed to accelerate the launch of the ferry service, enhance maritime cooperation, and strengthen bilateral trade and connectivity. The minister highlighted that the project could unlock significant economic potential through increased trade, investment, tourism, and regional transit.
He pointed out that Pakistan’s exports to Oman via sea routes reached around $224 million in 2024 and emphasized the need to scale up this volume through joint infrastructure development and strategic partnerships.
To foster long-term maritime cooperation, the minister also proposed education and training opportunities for Omani students at the Pakistan Marine Academy, which is in the process of being upgraded to university status.
Ambassador Al Kharusi responded positively, acknowledging the longstanding cultural, diplomatic, and economic ties between the two countries. He appreciated the influence of the Urdu language in Oman and praised the Pakistani community’s contributions to the Sultanate’s development.
He also advocated for stronger business-to-business relations to further enhance trade and investment. Minister Chaudhry concluded by saying the growing partnership reflects a shared commitment to regional prosperity, sustainable growth, and deeper people-to-people connections.
