China and Pakistan have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening agricultural industrial cooperation under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), with a focus on modernization, sustainability, and strategic collaboration to address shared challenges and boost economic resilience.
The renewed pledge was made during the “China-Pakistan High-Quality Agricultural Cooperation Development Forum—Agricultural Industrial Cooperation,” held in Islamabad and organized by the China Chamber of Commerce in Pakistan (CCCPK). Addressing the event, Chinese Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Shi Yuanqiang emphasized China’s readiness to share its agricultural models, research expertise, and advanced technologies to help Pakistan build a productive and sustainable farming sector.
Shi noted Pakistan’s significant agricultural potential, citing recent joint ventures as positive examples of bilateral progress. He highlighted that institutional ties in agricultural science and technology between the two countries have grown stronger in recent years. He credited CCCPK and Pakistani government institutions for playing a vital role in promoting this cooperation, adding that joint working groups under the CPEC framework have identified new areas for investment and trade in agriculture.
He also underlined the urgency of addressing global food security challenges through international partnerships, expressing optimism about the future of China-Pakistan collaboration in modern agriculture. He stressed that continued technology transfer, capacity building, and structural reforms would be central to advancing sustainable agricultural practices.
Wang Huihua, President of CCCPK, reaffirmed the Chamber’s commitment to long-term cooperation, emphasizing unity, strategic foresight, and mutual respect as keys to success. He added that innovation and efficiency would drive future progress in China-Pakistan agricultural ties.
Other key speakers included Mrs. Amina Bajwa, Head of Programme at FAO Pakistan, and Ch. Waseem Ajmal, Federal Secretary of the Ministry of National Food Security and Research. They highlighted agriculture’s central role in Pakistan’s economy, which contributes nearly 20 percent to GDP and employs over a third of the population. They stressed the importance of agricultural modernization to ensure food security, reduce poverty, and maintain social stability amid climate and economic pressures.
Speakers emphasized that agricultural cooperation has become a core pillar of CPEC and called for expanding agricultural value chains, promoting green practices, and building a resilient, food-secure future together.
The forum also served as a platform for meaningful engagement between government officials, businesses, researchers, and financial institutions. It featured five thematic sessions on topics such as contract farming of chili and sesame, development of hybrid double-zero canola, buffalo breeding and dairy processing, agricultural storage modernization, and financial solutions for farming ventures.
A special publication titled Typical Cases of China-Pakistan Agricultural Cooperation was launched, showcasing successful collaborative projects. Multiple Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed covering initiatives in canola cultivation, oil-feed integration, livestock equipment, and buffalo farming.
The forum concluded with a strong message of mutual commitment to deepening agricultural cooperation, supporting innovation, and leveraging CPEC’s strategic platform to create shared prosperity through sustainable agricultural development.
