
On the afternoon of October 31, 2025, President Xi Jinping met with Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul of Thailand on the sidelines of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Gyeongju, South Korea.
President Xi conveyed his condolences on the passing of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother and asked Prime Minister Anutin to extend his sympathies to His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn. He emphasized that China and Thailand enjoy a relationship of close neighbors, friends, relatives, and partners, noting that frequent exchanges reflect a bond akin to family. Highlighting the 50th anniversary of China-Thailand diplomatic relations, President Xi stressed the importance of building on this foundation to strengthen cooperation, support each other’s modernization efforts, and contribute to regional peace, stability, and prosperity.
President Xi also referenced China’s 14th Five-Year Plan and indicated that China is ready to coordinate development strategies with Thailand, sharing experience in modern development. Both sides agreed to accelerate projects such as the China-Thailand Railway, expand cooperation in agricultural trade, green economy, and digital innovation, and enhance people-to-people exchanges in tourism and youth programs. He further emphasized the importance of combating transnational crimes, including online gambling and telecom fraud, to create a safe environment for bilateral collaboration.
Prime Minister Anutin expressed gratitude for President Xi’s condolences, calling them significant for the Thai people. He reaffirmed Thailand’s commitment to strengthening high-level exchanges, economic and trade cooperation, science and technology collaboration, connectivity, and tourism. He also highlighted Thailand’s support for China’s international initiatives, including the Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative, and Global Civilization Initiative, noting the importance of promoting regional peace, stability, and prosperity through multilateral coordination.
Senior Chinese officials, including Cai Qi and Wang Yi, attended the meeting, reflecting the high-level nature of the bilateral discussions. Both leaders underscored the commitment to advancing the China-Thailand strategic partnership and fostering closer ties between their peoples.
