Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday reaffirmed Pakistan’s firm commitment to the Palestinian cause during a meeting with a high-level Palestinian delegation in Islamabad. The delegation, led by Mahmoud Siddiqui Al-Habbash, Adviser to the Palestinian President and Chief Justice of the Shariat Court, also included the Imam of Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Palestinian Ambassador.
The Prime Minister conveyed greetings to President Mahmoud Abbas and pledged that Pakistan would continue to raise its voice at every international forum against the atrocities committed by Israeli forces in Gaza.
Humanitarian Assistance to Gaza
Shehbaz Sharif assured that Pakistan would keep sending humanitarian aid to Gaza, where a worsening famine has emerged due to Israel’s blockade of relief supplies. He underlined that standing with the oppressed Palestinians was Pakistan’s legal, moral, and religious duty.
Gaza has faced severe devastation since the war began in October 2023, with over 64,000 reported deaths, mass displacement, and warnings from the United Nations of acute food shortages. The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) recently declared parts of Gaza in famine, the first such declaration outside Africa.
Palestinian Gratitude and Solidarity
Mahmoud Al-Habbash expressed deep gratitude to Pakistan for its unwavering solidarity, calling it a source of strength for the Palestinian people in their darkest hour. He also offered condolences for the lives lost during Pakistan’s recent floods. At the conclusion of the meeting, Al-Habbash handed over a personal letter from President Mahmoud Abbas to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
