Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday directed the Power Division to prepare policy recommendations under the power sector reforms in Pakistan to boost domestic industrial output and economic growth.
Chairing a high-level meeting on energy and industry, he said the government must ensure that power generation supports both agriculture and manufacturing. He stressed that efficient electricity use can significantly increase productivity and strengthen national growth.
Shehbaz urged all departments to work together and make it easier for investors and industrialists to operate. He added that sustainable industrial progress depends on effective power use and strong government support.
Furthermore, the prime minister reaffirmed his government’s resolve to implement comprehensive energy sector reforms that attract investment and enhance productivity. These measures, he said, would create jobs, promote exports, and ensure long-term economic stability.
Officials briefed the premier on a proposed reform package aimed at improving power generation efficiency and providing reliable energy for industries. The initiative will help cut production costs and address long-standing problems in power distribution.
Moreover, Shehbaz highlighted the need to align energy and industrial strategies for maximum economic benefit. “Every unit of power must contribute to national output,” he said, calling for swift and practical implementation.
The meeting included Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar, Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Advisor on Industries Haroon Akhtar, and other senior officials.
