Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening the industrial cooperation under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), emphasising the role of China’s expertise in uplifting Pakistan’s textile sector.
The prime minister made the remarks during a meeting with a delegation of Challenge Fashion Private Limited, led by Chairman Huwang Weiguo. He announced that a China-Pakistan Business-to-Business (B2B) conference would soon be organised in China to expand collaboration between the private sectors of both countries.
Chairman Huwang informed the premier that the company has already invested $17 million in Pakistan since 2014 and is now establishing a modern textile facility. In addition, the group is developing a special economic zone (SEZ) in Pakistan with an expected investment of $100 million over the next five years, projected to generate $400 million in exports.
Prime Minister Sharif inaugurated the new SEZ, describing it as a strategic step for Pakistan’s industrial development. He highlighted that the initiative will support technology transfer, skill development, and sustainable growth, and directed all authorities to provide complete facilitation to the company.
Commending Challenge Fashion Group’s trust in Pakistan, the prime minister said that strengthening economic relations with China is a source of pride and satisfaction, adding that Pakistan welcomes more Chinese industries to invest in its growing market.
Federal Ministers Ahsan Iqbal, Jam Kamal, Ataullah Tarar, Ali Pervaiz Malik, Awais Leghari, and senior officials were also present during the meeting.
