Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to ensure simple, durable, and sustainable infrastructure at Islamabad’s under-construction hospitals, including the Jinnah Medical Complex. Stressing the need for global best practices, he said that PM seeks a China-model healthcare system in Pakistan to deliver modern, high-quality medical facilities accessible to all citizens.
Visit to Beijing’s Anzhen Hospital
During his visit to Beijing’s renowned Anzhen Hospital, the prime minister reviewed healthcare facilities and praised the institution’s efficiency, patient care, and use of modern technology. He noted that China’s hospitals serve as benchmarks for innovation, robotic systems, and administrative precision. According to him, these models should guide Pakistan’s efforts to modernise its healthcare sector.
Chinese Standards as a Benchmark
Shehbaz Sharif highlighted that replicating Chinese healthcare standards in Pakistan will help hospitals operate more effectively while providing advanced treatments. The Chinese model, built on sustainability and technology, can strengthen service delivery in Pakistan’s public health sector, which faces challenges of overcrowding, limited resources, and outdated infrastructure.
Robotics and Smart Administration
Officials briefed the prime minister about robotic systems for advanced medical procedures, better hospital administration, and integrated patient care. Sharif emphasised that adopting such innovations could improve Pakistan’s efficiency in handling emergencies, reduce waiting times, and enhance the overall patient experience.
Leadership Accompanies the Prime Minister
The prime minister was joined by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and federal ministers Mohsin Raza Naqvi, Ahsan Iqbal, Muhammad Aurangzeb, and Attaullah Tarar. Their participation underscored the government’s collective push to prioritise health sector reforms.
Strategic Significance for Pakistan’s Healthcare
By announcing that PM seeks a China-model healthcare system in Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif positioned healthcare reform as a central pillar of development. Analysts note that aligning Pakistan’s hospitals with Chinese standards could not only improve medical outcomes but also build long-term resilience in healthcare delivery. This initiative is seen as part of broader cooperation between the two nations under their strategic partnership.
