Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has officially inaugurated the Chinese textile group’s Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Lahore, marking a major milestone in Pakistan’s industrial growth. The project, announced under the headline PM Launches Chinese Textile Group’s Economic Zone, will be developed by garments giant Challenge Fashion Private Limited. It involves a $100 million investment over the next five years and is expected to generate $400 million in exports.
Challenge Fashion, a leading Chinese textile manufacturer, has already invested $17 million in Pakistan since 2014. With the launch of this Special Economic Zone, the company plans to introduce advanced manufacturing technologies, promote skill development, and foster sustainable industrial practices.
Before the groundbreaking ceremony, PM Shehbaz met with Challenge Fashion’s Chairman Huwang Weiguo. During their meeting, he welcomed the group’s continued confidence in Pakistan’s economy and assured full government support for the venture. The Prime Minister emphasised that this initiative reflects the strengthening of the industrial pillar of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
He further encouraged other Chinese enterprises to set up their production units in Pakistan. To enhance business cooperation, he announced that a China-Pakistan Business-to-Business Conference will soon be held, offering private sector companies fresh opportunities for collaboration.
Highlighting the time-tested friendship between Pakistan and China, Shehbaz Sharif said that economic relations between the two countries remain a source of deep satisfaction. In response, Chairman Huwang Weiguo expressed his gratitude for Pakistan’s warm welcome and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to establishing a modern textile industry in the country.
The launch ceremony for the PM Launches Chinese Textile Group’s Economic Zone was attended by senior federal ministers, special assistants, and high-level government officials, underscoring the project’s national importance. This initiative is set to boost Pakistan’s export potential, create jobs, and attract more foreign investment into the textile sector.
