Islamabad, October 6, 2023: Pakistan’s Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, Sami Saeed, recently met with Chairman Yu Bo of the China Overseas Port Holding Company (COPHC) to underscore Pakistan’s steadfast commitment to expediting the ongoing projects of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The meeting served as a platform to discuss the progress and future prospects of CPEC, with a particular focus on the crucial role played by Gwadar, often considered the heart of this monumental initiative.

Minister Sami Saeed emphasized the strategic importance of Gwadar within the CPEC framework, highlighting its potential as a gateway to prosperity for both Pakistan and the broader region. He noted that Gwadar was undergoing transformation into a world-class port and logistics hub, a development expected to generate new employment opportunities and bolster the nation’s economy significantly.

Chairman Yu Bo provided a comprehensive update on the progress of the Gwadar Free Zone and Gwadar Free Port, highlighting significant milestones achieved in the development of these crucial components of CPEC. He emphasized that the first stage of Gwadar port and city development, alongside the Gwadar Free Zone, had been successfully completed. COPHC’s decade-long stewardship was acknowledged for its transformative impact, turning Gwadar from a modest village into a thriving modern city, equipped with cutting-edge technology.

During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation in the realm of CPEC.
