Pakistan and Uzbekistan agreed to expand their Preferential Trade Agreement to increase bilateral trade from $450 million last year to over $2 billion in two years. The decision was made at the 10th Pak-Uzbek Intergovernmental Commission (IGC) meeting, co-chaired by SAPM Haroon Akhtar Khan and Uzbekistan’s Trade Minister Laziz Kudratov.
The two countries plan to more than double the list of tradable items from 17 currently, while emphasizing trade facilitation, logistics, customs digitalisation, and transit trade cooperation. Both sides also agreed to form a joint working group on labour relations to address employment visas, skills development, and workplace safety.
Cooperation will extend to transport, agriculture, and higher education, including direct air services, regional connectivity projects, joint research, and technical training. Environmental and climate collaboration will also be strengthened, focusing on sustainable water management, climate resilience, and protection of glacial ecosystems.
