Pakistan and Uzbekistan have agreed to strengthen cooperation in trade, aviation, banking, and pharmaceuticals, aiming to enhance regional connectivity and economic ties. The agreement was made during the 8th Review Session of Pakistan-Uzbekistan Cooperation, chaired by SAPM Haroon Akhtar Khan and attended by Uzbek Ambassador Alisher Takhtayev, senior officials, business leaders, and diplomats.
Both countries emphasized historical and cultural links while focusing on economic collaboration. Pakistan aims to achieve $2 billion in annual bilateral trade, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif calling for urgent and inclusive implementation of all cooperation frameworks. Uzbekistan highlighted its goal of improving regional integration and using enhanced trade with Pakistan as a gateway between Central and South Asia.
Pharmaceutical collaboration was a major topic, with Uzbekistan showing interest in sharing expertise from its Pharma Park model. A joint committee was formed, including DRAP, Pakistan Pharmaceutical Association, and Uzbek regulators, to speed up certification of Pakistani medicines.
The two sides also agreed to launch direct flights between Karachi and Uzbekistan to boost business and tourism, while banking cooperation will be strengthened with an NBP branch opening in Tashkent to facilitate trade and financial transactions.
