Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation in key sectors including mining, energy, defence, tourism, education, and culture during a meeting in Islamabad. The leaders held one-on-one discussions followed by delegation-level talks covering trade, investment, and regional connectivity.
Both sides expressed satisfaction over growing high-level engagements and signed a Joint Declaration along with 28 agreements and memorandums of understanding in areas such as trade, IT, agriculture, health, maritime cooperation, research, and sports. The leaders also reaffirmed their commitment to increasing bilateral trade to $2 billion.
The two countries emphasized the importance of regional connectivity projects, particularly the Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan railway project, which aims to link Central Asia with Pakistani seaports. The visit concluded with both leaders expressing confidence that the agreements would open new avenues of cooperation between Pakistan and Uzbekistan.
