Pakistan and Uzbekistan signed a landmark agreement to raise bilateral trade to $2 billion over the next five years. Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and President Shavkat Mirziyoyev led the ceremony, emphasizing enhanced cooperation in trade, agriculture, IT, defense, and industry. Both leaders committed to fostering a strong economic and strategic partnership between the two nations.
The agreement includes the creation of a joint working group to implement a five-year trade roadmap, with quarterly reviews chaired by the leaders. Initiatives such as Tashkent Street, Babur Park, and Fergana Village in Islamabad were unveiled, symbolizing the long-standing cultural, historical, and economic ties between Pakistan and Uzbekistan. The countries also discussed the Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan rail project to strengthen regional connectivity.
President Mirziyoyev expressed gratitude for the Nishan-e-Pakistan award and highlighted collaborations in education, digital technology, and research with Pakistani institutions. The protocol strengthens economic engagement, cultural exchange, and strategic cooperation, ensuring mutual benefits and closer ties for the people and governments of both countries.
