Pakistan and the United States have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening maritime security and defence collaboration as Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf concluded a key visit to Washington, the Pakistan Navy said on Friday.
According to the Directorate General of Public Relations (Navy), Admiral Ashraf’s visit aimed to enhance bilateral maritime cooperation, professional exchanges, and strategic coordination between the two countries.
During his visit, Admiral Ashraf met the US Deputy Chief of Naval Operations, Vice Admiral Yvette Davids, and Acting Vice Commandant of the US Coast Guard, Vice Admiral Thomas G. Allan Jr. Discussions focused on regional security dynamics, maritime training, and capacity-building initiatives.
The naval chief also visited the National Defence University (NDU), where he met Vice President Admiral Peter A. Garvin. At the US State Department, he held talks with Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs Stanley L. Brown, covering politico-military cooperation, maritime domain awareness, and shared security interests.
Admiral Ashraf further addressed US scholars and think-tank experts, where he emphasised Pakistan Navy’s role in ensuring maritime stability in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) and its contribution to multilateral security operations.
The Pakistan Navy said the visit underscored the “enduring defence ties between Pakistan and the United States” and reflected both nations’ shared commitment to peace, stability, and freedom of navigation in regional waters.
The visit comes at a time of renewed Pakistan-US engagement, following high-level meetings by Pakistan’s army and air chiefs earlier this year. The series of military interactions signals a growing effort to rebuild strategic cooperation and trust between Islamabad and Washington.
