Pakistan and the United States have agreed to boost security and energy ties during a follow-up meeting between Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker in Islamabad on Friday. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral relations, with a strong focus on security cooperation and investment opportunities in Pakistan’s energy sector.
The discussions covered a wide range of issues, including border management, counter-narcotics, coast guard operations, and forensic sciences. By strengthening these areas, the two sides aim to build stronger institutional linkages and address mutual security concerns. In addition, officials discussed individuals wanted by U.S. authorities, signalling closer coordination on law enforcement matters.
During the meeting, Baker conveyed condolences on behalf of the U.S. government for the lives and property lost in recent floods across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab. Naqvi welcomed the gesture and noted that humanitarian cooperation further strengthens the long-standing ties between Islamabad and Washington.
On the economic side, Naqvi highlighted U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent remarks about expanding oil reserves in collaboration with Pakistan. He described the statement as “positive and encouraging,” underlining Pakistan’s vast investment potential in the energy sector. He assured American businesses of full government support, adding that investment in oil and other industries could bring mutual benefits.
“American investors can greatly benefit from Pakistan’s opportunities in energy and beyond. We are committed to supporting them at every step,” Naqvi said.
Baker reaffirmed that Washington attaches “special importance” to its partnership with Pakistan and expressed readiness to strengthen cooperation in both security and economic domains. With senior officials, including Interior Secretary Muhammad Khurram Agha and Additional Interior Secretary Major General Noor Wali Khan present, the meeting reflected Islamabad’s strong commitment to advancing dialogue with Washington.
By agreeing to boost both security and energy ties, Pakistan and the U.S. signalled a renewed determination to expand their partnership on multiple fronts.
