Pakistan has announced an ambitious plan to deploy 3,000 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations nationwide by 2030, marking a significant step toward sustainable transportation. The federal government has earmarked 240 stations for installation during the current fiscal year, in collaboration with the private sector.
Oversight for the initiative will be shared among the Ministry of Industries and Production, the National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (NEECA), the Ministry of Energy (Power Division), NEPRA, and distribution companies. This coordinated approach aims to ensure efficient and widespread deployment of EV infrastructure across the country.
The plan is part of the Draft New Energy Vehicle Policy, which seeks to accelerate EV adoption in Pakistan. Since the introduction of Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure (EVCI) and Battery Swapping Stations (BSS) regulations in October 2024, NEECA has issued 72 licenses for charging infrastructure, paving the way for rapid expansion.
This initiative reflects Pakistan’s commitment to clean energy, reducing carbon emissions, and supporting a green economy, while making EVs more accessible for citizens nationwide.
