Pakistan and Iran have signed a series of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in media, broadcasting, film production, and cultural exchange. The agreements, inked between the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) and five major Pakistani media organizations PTV, PEMRA, Box Office (Pvt) Ltd, Sab TV Network, and VSH TV mark a significant step in deepening the longstanding friendship between the two countries.
The MoUs will promote collaborative content creation, joint training programs, co-productions, and cultural exchange, helping streamline media practices and foster mutual understanding.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar described the Iranian media delegation’s visit as “productive and inspiring.” He emphasized that the agreements reflect both countries’ commitment to people-to-people connections, shared values of peace, and regional solidarity.
Tarar highlighted the recent visit of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkia to Pakistan, including his visit to Allama Iqbal’s mausoleum, as a symbol of shared cultural and ideological heritage. He added that Pakistan and Iran are not only neighbors but also Muslim brothers, and the MoUs reinforce this enduring partnership.
The agreements cover multiple areas, including co-producing television programs, sharing technical expertise, exchanging personnel for professional development, and joint training initiatives. Special focus is given to digital media and youth engagement, recognizing the growing influence of online platforms in fostering national unity and cultural diplomacy.
Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan, Dr. Reza Amiri Moghadam, welcomed the MoUs, stating they would bring the people of both nations closer, strengthen cultural understanding, and pave the way for broader public diplomacy.
The MoUs are expected to enhance broadcasting collaboration, support joint film projects under initiatives like Punjab Film City, and encourage co-productions of content in Persian and Urdu, including educational programs highlighting the vision of Allama Iqbal.
