Pakistan has invited Chinese companies to expand investment in the country’s ports, logistics, and maritime sectors as Islamabad seeks to strengthen regional connectivity and position itself as a major transit trade hub.

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry made the invitation while addressing the Regional Transit Trade Hub Initiative in Beijing, organized by Jiang Tonland International Holdings.

Pakistan Eyes Regional Trade Hub Status

The minister said the government is committed to transforming Pakistan into a regional center for transit trade, logistics, and industrial development.

Moreover, he noted that Pakistan and China’s all-weather strategic partnership is entering a new phase focused on connectivity, trade facilitation, logistics, industrial cooperation, and sustainable economic growth.

He added that global trade is evolving through digitalization, smart logistics, resilient supply chains, green shipping, and multimodal transport, making stronger regional partnerships increasingly important.

Pakistan Highlights Strategic Location

Chaudhry said Pakistan’s strategic geographic position makes it a natural gateway for regional and international trade.

Furthermore, he stated that major maritime institutions are implementing reforms to modernize the country’s maritime sector and improve logistics infrastructure.

These institutions include the Karachi Port Trust, Port Qasim Authority, Gwadar Port Authority, and Pakistan National Shipping Corporation.

Gwadar Port Offers Investment Opportunities

The minister described Gwadar Port as the flagship project of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

He said the port presents significant opportunities in port operations, logistics, warehousing, free zone development, and maritime industries.

In addition, he emphasized that the Regional Transit Trade Hub Initiative aligns with Pakistan’s economic priorities by supporting port modernization, multimodal transport corridors, logistics parks, industrial infrastructure, maritime services, digital trade facilitation, and value-added logistics.

Chinese Firms Invited to Invest

Chaudhry invited Chinese enterprises to explore long-term investment opportunities in Pakistan’s maritime sector.

He also assured investors that Pakistan would continue to provide a transparent, business-friendly environment while facilitating sustainable partnerships that benefit both countries.

Strengthening Pakistan-China Cooperation

The minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to expanding economic cooperation with China through increased trade, investment, and infrastructure development.

Consequently, the initiative is expected to support regional connectivity, strengthen supply chains, and further advance high-quality cooperation under CPEC.
