Pakistan officially welcomed PNS/M Hangor, the first submarine inducted under the Hangor-class program developed through defense cooperation with China.
Major Step in Naval Modernization
The Hangor-class project represents one of Pakistan’s largest naval modernization efforts. Moreover, the initiative forms part of broader strategic defense cooperation between Islamabad and Beijing.
Advanced Features Strengthen Maritime Capability
Built on an advanced Chinese submarine platform, PNS/M Hangor incorporates Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) technology. As a result, the submarine can remain underwater for longer periods while improving stealth and operational endurance.
In addition, the platform carries advanced combat systems, modern sensors, and enhanced underwater warfare capabilities designed to strengthen maritime operations.

Traditional Naval Reception in Karachi
Upon arrival in Karachi, the submarine received a traditional naval welcome ceremony at the Pakistan Navy Dockyard.
Senior naval officers, crew families, and Pakistan Navy personnel attended the event. Meanwhile, cadets from the Pakistan Naval Academy presented a ceremonial salute, and PN Z9EC helicopters conducted a fly-past.
Strengthening Strategic Defense Cooperation
According to Pakistan Navy, the induction marks an important milestone in fleet modernization. Furthermore, officials stated that the submarine enhances combat readiness and supports maritime deterrence objectives.
Government Highlights Strategic Partnership
Shehbaz Sharif congratulated the Pakistan Navy and described the Hangor project as a reflection of long-term Pakistan–China defense cooperation.
