Pakistan and Egypt have agreed to strengthen cooperation in agriculture, with a focus on research, technology, and sustainable farming.
Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain discussed the proposal with Egyptian Ambassador Dr. Ihab Mohamed Abdelhamid Hassan in Islamabad.
Focus on Cotton Production
Rana Tanveer particularly sought Egypt’s technical support to improve Pakistan’s cotton sector. He highlighted Egypt’s expertise in cotton varieties, quality seeds, crop management, and value addition.
Moreover, Pakistan aims to benefit from Egypt’s experience to increase cotton yields and improve product quality.
Expanding Agricultural Cooperation
The minister also proposed cooperation in several other areas. These include water-efficient irrigation, seed development, biotechnology, and climate-smart agriculture.
In addition, both countries can collaborate on mechanization, livestock, horticulture, and agricultural research.
Egypt Offers Technical Expertise
Ambassador Hassan expressed Egypt’s readiness to strengthen agricultural cooperation with Pakistan. Egypt’s practical experience and agricultural technologies could support Pakistan’s efforts to modernize its farming sector.
Furthermore, closer cooperation between research institutions could promote knowledge sharing and joint agricultural initiatives.
Building a Stronger Agricultural Partnership
The proposed cooperation could help Pakistan improve productivity while addressing challenges linked to water use and climate change.
As a result, stronger Pakistan-Egypt agricultural ties could create new opportunities for research, technology transfer, and sustainable farming.
