China and Pakistan have agreed to advance CPEC 2.0 and strengthen political and institutional cooperation. The understanding came during a meeting between senior Communist Party of China (CPC) leader Liu Daxiu and Pakistan’s Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal.
Liu said China will continue working with Pakistan to support development and high-quality Belt and Road cooperation. He also reaffirmed Beijing’s commitment to strengthening the next phase of CPEC.
Cooperation Beyond Infrastructure
Both sides agreed to expand cooperation beyond traditional infrastructure projects. Their discussions focused on institution-building, governance, human capital, innovation, and political exchanges.
Moreover, the two countries aim to use CPEC 2.0 as a platform for broader economic and institutional development.
Five Political Corridors Proposed
The meeting also addressed Pakistan’s proposed Five Political Corridors. Both sides agreed to develop them into an annual PML-N-CPC cooperation programme.
The proposed framework will cover political dialogue, governance, youth engagement, and people-to-people relations. It will also promote regional peace and stability.
Focus on Governance and Human Capital
In addition, the partnership will place greater emphasis on institutional capacity and human capital development. Innovation will also form an important part of future cooperation.
As a result, CPEC 2.0 is expected to take a broader approach that combines economic development with institutional and social cooperation.
Strengthening Pakistan-China Relations
The latest discussions highlight the evolving nature of the Pakistan-China partnership. Both countries are seeking to deepen cooperation through political engagement, governance reforms, innovation, and regional connectivity.
Consequently, CPEC 2.0 is emerging as a wider framework for long-term cooperation beyond infrastructure development.
