Multiple emergency response teams have mobilized after a mudslide hit Gyirong County in Xigaze City, southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region.

Rescue teams are working to restore transport links and support affected residents. Meanwhile, authorities are delivering food, shelter, and other essential supplies to the disaster zone.

Road Restoration Efforts Underway

Xizang transportation authorities quickly launched repairs on damaged sections of the G216 highway. The route connects the area with Gyirong Port.

By 6 p.m. on Thursday, workers had reopened around 800 meters of the affected road. Excavators, loaders, and other machinery continue clearing debris and repairing damaged sections.

Emergency Shelters Set Up for Residents

The Public Security Bureau of Gyirong County dispatched its first group of 26 rescue officers. The team immediately set up 24 emergency tents for residents facing potential safety risks.

In addition, officers from the Xigaze detachment of the People’s Armed Police helped transport emergency materials. By Thursday morning, they had moved more than 450 sets of tents to support temporary shelters.

Large Relief Supplies Reach Disaster Zone

Authorities have continued sending relief supplies to Gyirong Town. The deliveries include 20 tonnes of highland barley, 50 tonnes of rice, 20 tonnes of flour, and one tonne of cooking oil.

The area has also received more than 1,100 tents, over 2,300 folding beds, and more than 8,000 quilts.

Furthermore, 13 categories of emergency supplies reached Lhasa Gonggar Airport on Thursday. Officials expect the materials to arrive in Gyirong Town on Friday.

Firefighters and Specialists Join Rescue Efforts

The National Fire and Rescue Administration sent 681 firefighters to the disaster area. They arrived with 113 vehicles, 13 rescue dogs, and 47 drones.

Meanwhile, the Xizang Fire and Rescue Corps deployed 108 personnel and 18 vehicles to the hardest-hit areas. Teams are assessing road conditions and monitoring possible secondary hazards.

Experts Monitor Geological Risks

Authorities have also deployed 86 specialists from several sectors, including natural resources. They are using specialized equipment to inspect geological conditions.

Their work focuses on identifying landslide risks and preventing possible secondary disasters. Moreover, rescue teams are collecting real-time images and data to support emergency planning.

Relief Operations Continue

The coordinated response combines road repairs, emergency shelter, firefighting, geological monitoring, and supply deliveries.

As rescue teams continue their work, authorities are prioritizing the safety of residents and the restoration of critical transport links in Gyirong.
