The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a high alert for flash floods in Balochistan, warning that several districts could face torrential rains within the next 24 to 48 hours.
According to forecasts by the Pakistan Meteorological Department, heavy downpours are expected in Lasbela, Hub, Khuzdar, Awaran, Gwadar, Pasni, Ormara, Kech, Sibi, Dera Bugti, Naseerabad, Zhob, Kalat, Barkhan, Kohlu, Surab, and southern Washuk. Authorities cautioned that flash flooding in seasonal streams and rivers, particularly in Wadh, Khuzdar, Bela, Ormara, and Hingol Valley, poses serious threats to nearby communities.
Officials have warned that rising waters may damage mud houses, crops, farmland, and rural roads, leaving villages near waterways at high risk. Local administrations have been instructed to mobilise rescue teams, prepare shelters, and ensure road connectivity in case of disruption.
The NDMA has urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel in vulnerable areas, keep away from weak structures and electricity poles, and not attempt to cross flooded roads. Motorists are advised to park safely, while farmers are urged to take urgent measures to protect standing crops.
The authority appealed to the public to remain alert, follow safety guidelines, and promptly report emergencies to local officials.
