Pakistan has witnessed over 1,400 percent increase in port activity and transshipment volumes as global shipping disruptions in the Middle East redirect trade flows toward the country.
Karachi Port, along with Port Qasim and Gwadar, reported record levels of cargo handling. In the last 24 days alone, Karachi Port processed 8,313 containers, surpassing the total handled in 2025 and marking a 1,423 percent growth.Operationally, South Asia Pakistan Terminal handled 5,286 containers, Hutchison Port processed 1,827, and Karachi Gateway Terminal managed 1,200 containers during this surge.
Policy revisions allowing cargo handling at both seaports and airports, along with improved infrastructure under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), have strengthened Pakistan’s position as a regional trade and logistics hub.If the current momentum continues, Pakistan is expected to attract sustained investment in logistics and port infrastructure, further enhancing its role in global trade.
