Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar has arrived in New York to attend the High-Level Week of the 81st United Nations General Assembly.
Dar was received by Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad. Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States Rizwan Saeed Sheikh and Consul General New York Aamer Ahmed Atozai also welcomed him.
High-Level Diplomatic Engagements
Dar will participate in ministerial forums and deliver Pakistan’s statements on key issues. His agenda will cover bilateral, regional, and international priorities.
In addition, he will hold bilateral meetings with foreign counterparts. He will also join several high-level discussions on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
Dar to Join PM Shehbaz at UNGA
The deputy prime minister will accompany Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during the high-level week. Both leaders will participate in diplomatic meetings and engagements with international counterparts.
According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, Dar’s programme also includes OIC ministerial meetings and discussions on major regional issues.
Focus on Regional and Global Issues
Dar is scheduled to participate in discussions covering issues important to Pakistan and the wider international community.
Furthermore, his planned engagements include meetings on Jammu and Kashmir, Palestine, artificial intelligence, pandemic preparedness, and regional peace and stability.
The 81st UN General Assembly session opened on September 8, 2026, under the theme “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations That Delivers for All.”
Pakistan’s Diplomatic Engagement at UNGA
Dar’s visit provides an opportunity for Pakistan to present its positions on key international issues. At the same time, his bilateral meetings are expected to focus on strengthening relations with partner countries.
The deputy prime minister will remain in New York through the high-level week as Pakistan participates in the annual UN gathering.
