The Gwadar Fish Auction Hall and Mall Holding Section at the Surbandar Fish Landing Jetty have been inaugurated to improve facilities for local fishermen.
MPA Gwadar Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman and Gwadar Development Authority (GDA) Director General Moin-ur-Rehman Khan inaugurated the facilities on September 18.
Both officials also handed over allotment orders to mall holders during the ceremony.
Fish Auction System Becomes Operational
The Fish Auction Hall and Mall Holding Section had remained non-functional for a long period. However, the facilities are now operational following instructions from GDA Director General Moin-ur-Rehman Khan.
A formal fish auction system will also begin at the jetty. The system aims to organize fish sales and improve trading conditions for fishermen in Surbandar.
Fishermen to Benefit from Organized Auctions
The new auction system will help fishermen secure fairer prices for their catch. It will also make fish buying and selling more transparent.
In addition, the system can improve coordination between fishermen, buyers, and traders. This could support further growth in the local fisheries sector.
Revenue to Support Jetty Facilities
Revenue generated through the Fish Auction Hall and other facilities will support the same jetty.
Authorities will use the funds for daily operations, upkeep, maintenance, and future improvements. As a result, the revenue system will help maintain the facilities over the long term.
Officials Attend Inauguration
A large number of fishermen attended the inauguration ceremony. Several GDA officials and local representatives also joined the event.
These included GDA Chief Engineer Haji Syed Muhammad, Superintending Engineer Roads Nadir Baloch, and Project Director Surbandar Jetty Haji Hanif Hussain.
Executive Engineer Qasim Baloch and Surbandar Union Council Chairman Naseeb Nosherwani also attended. Businessman and social figure Kahda Hameed Essa was present along with other officials and community representatives.
Boost for Surbandar Fisheries
The reopening marks a new step for fisheries development in Surbandar. Better auction facilities can improve market access for local fishermen.
Moreover, a more organized fish trade system can strengthen transparency and support economic activity around the jetty.
