The Gwadar Development Authority (GDA) has started consultancy work for a proposed smart environmental sanitation and landfill project under the Gwadar Smart Port City Master Plan.
According to GDA, the project carries an estimated cost of Rs3.276 billion and aims to improve solid waste management, sanitation, drainage, and environmental protection across Gwadar.
First Phase to Focus on Landfill Development
GDA Chief Engineer Haji Syed Muhammad said the first phase will cost Rs200 million. The initial work includes procurement of heavy machinery and development of a modern landfill facility.
He added that consultancy services for the project have already begun.
Improved Waste and Sewerage Management
Later phases of the project will introduce sludge suction and jetting units to strengthen sewerage and wastewater management.
In addition, authorities plan to treat wastewater for possible reuse in agriculture and urban green belts.
Cleaner Roads and Better Collection System
The project also includes mechanical cleaning of major roads, highways, and public spaces alongside manual cleaning operations.
Moreover, GDA plans to install waste collection containers throughout the city. Officials will also introduce a coordinated door-to-door collection system in densely populated areas and narrow streets.
Recycling and Environmental Sustainability
Authorities will establish a landfill facility with an expected operational capacity of up to 10 years. The project also includes a recycling plant to support sustainable waste management.
According to GDA, the initiative aims to improve waste disposal, strengthen drainage infrastructure, and reduce pollution.
Supporting Gwadar’s Smart City Vision
The sanitation project forms part of broader efforts to develop Gwadar into a modern and environmentally sustainable city under CPEC-linked planning.
As a result, officials expect improved urban services and a cleaner environment for residents.
