Acting President Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has reaffirmed Pakistan’s close partnership with China, describing the relationship as an “iron brotherhood” built on mutual trust, shared interests, and strategic cooperation.
He made the remarks at a seminar marking the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China.
Expanding Economic and Strategic Cooperation
Gilani said Pakistan-China cooperation has grown steadily across defence, trade, infrastructure, education, healthcare, and cultural exchanges.
Moreover, he stressed that both countries should deepen collaboration in trade, technology, clean energy, and parliamentary exchanges to unlock new opportunities.
CPEC Drives Regional Connectivity
Gilani described the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor as a key driver of regional connectivity and economic development.
In addition, he appreciated China’s continued support for Pakistan during natural disasters and the COVID-19 pandemic, calling it a reflection of the strong bilateral partnership.
China’s Development Model Highlighted
Gilani praised China’s development under the leadership of the Communist Party of China. He said the country’s progress demonstrates the value of strong institutions, long-term planning, and effective governance.
Furthermore, he noted that the CPC has guided China’s economic transformation and helped lift hundreds of millions of people out of poverty, contributing significantly to global development.
Importance of Good Governance
The acting president highlighted President Xi Jinping’s “Thought on Party Building” as an example of institutional reform and accountability.
He said principles such as self-reform, transparency, and anti-corruption provide useful lessons for political parties and institutions, particularly in the Global South.
Tribute to Pakistan-China Friendship
Gilani paid tribute to Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Mao Zedong, and Zhou Enlai for laying the foundation of Pakistan-China relations.
The seminar, organized by the Pakistan-China Economic and Cultural Council, brought together senior political leaders, diplomats, policy experts, and representatives of the Chinese Embassy to discuss bilateral cooperation and governance.
