Pakistan and China have agreed to deepen cooperation on counterterrorism and internal security following a meeting between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and China’s Minister of State for Public Security, Ling Zhifeng.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the United Nations Chiefs of Police Summit 2026 at the United Nations headquarters in New York City.
Focus on Security and Border Management
Both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in counterterrorism, border management, and internal security.
In addition, they discussed measures to curb illegal immigration, combat narcotics trafficking, and prevent terrorist financing. These efforts aim to enhance regional security and law enforcement cooperation.
Pakistan Reaffirms Protection for Chinese Nationals
Mohsin Naqvi reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to ensuring the safety of Chinese nationals working in the country.
He highlighted the role of the dedicated Special Protection Police Force, established to provide security for Chinese citizens and projects across Pakistan.
Moreover, he called for greater people-to-people exchanges by facilitating visa procedures between the two countries.
China Appreciates Pakistan’s Counterterrorism Efforts
Ling Zhifeng praised Pakistan’s sacrifices in the fight against terrorism and acknowledged its continued efforts to improve national security.
Furthermore, he expressed China’s support for expanding joint counterterrorism initiatives and reviewing visa and immigration-related cooperation.
Strengthening the Strategic Security Partnership
The meeting reaffirmed the long-standing strategic partnership between Pakistan and China.
As a result, both countries agreed to continue close coordination on security matters while promoting cooperation in law enforcement, border protection, and regional stability.
