Pakistan Welcomes Israel-Hamas Agreement
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday welcomed the first-phase ceasefire and hostage-release deal between Israel and Hamas. He called it a “historic opportunity” to achieve lasting peace in the Middle East.
Shehbaz praised US President Donald Trump for his role in the negotiations and appreciated the mediation by Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey.
Praise for Mediators and Palestinian Resilience
In a post on X (Twitter), the prime minister said:
“The agreement that will bring an end to the genocide in Gaza is a historic opportunity to secure lasting peace.”
He applauded Trump’s leadership and acknowledged his commitment to global stability. Shehbaz also commended the “resolute and wise” diplomacy of Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey for their tireless mediation efforts.
He added that the world must pay tribute to the Palestinian people “who have suffered unimaginably and whose suffering must never be repeated.”
Condemnation of Provocations at Al Aqsa
Shehbaz strongly condemned recent provocations at Masjid Al Aqsa. He urged the international community to hold occupiers and illegal settlers accountable. Such acts, he warned, risk undermining the ongoing peace process.
Pakistan’s Commitment to the Palestinian Cause
The prime minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s continued cooperation with friendly nations to promote peace, dignity, and security for the Palestinian people. He said Pakistan remains committed to supporting their aspirations in line with United Nations resolutions.
Details of Trump’s Peace Framework
In his announcement, President Trump confirmed that Israel and Hamas had agreed to the first phase of his peace plan. Under the deal, all hostages will be released soon, and Israeli troops will withdraw to a mutually agreed line.
Trump described it as a monumental day for the Arab and Muslim world. He also thanked Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey for their “historic and unprecedented” mediation.
Hamas and Israel Respond to the Deal
Hamas confirmed that the agreement includes Israeli troop withdrawal and a hostage exchange. The group urged guarantor states to ensure both sides fully comply.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he would convene his government to endorse the deal and facilitate the hostages’ return.
Two-Year Conflict’s Human Cost
The Gaza conflict has claimed more than 67,000 lives, with over half being women and children. The two-year war has inflamed regional tensions, drawn in multiple countries, and reshaped Middle Eastern geopolitics.
Pakistan, which does not recognise Israel, has consistently supported a ceasefire and the uninterrupted flow of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
