Pakistan on Saturday welcomed Hamas’ positive response to the Gaza peace proposal announced by US President Donald Trump, terming it a crucial opportunity to achieve an immediate ceasefire, end civilian suffering, and pave the way for lasting peace in the region.
FO Calls It a Turning Point for Peace
In a statement, the Foreign Office said the development could mark a turning point in efforts to end the Gaza bloodshed, ensure the release of hostages and prisoners, and allow unhindered humanitarian aid. It urged Israel to immediately halt its attacks.
PM Shehbaz Welcomes Diplomatic Push for Ceasefire
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif echoed similar sentiments, saying Hamas’ response “creates a window for a ceasefire and ensuring peace that we must not allow to close again.”
He expressed gratitude to President Trump and the leadership of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Turkiye, Jordan, Egypt, and Indonesia for their diplomatic efforts during the recent UNGA session.
“Alhamdolillah, we are closer to a ceasefire than we have been since this genocide began. Pakistan has always stood by the Palestinian people and shall always do so,” the premier said on X (formerly Twitter).
Ishaq Dar Terms Hamas Response a Welcome Step
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar also welcomed the move, calling it a “welcome step” that must lead to a permanent ceasefire, the release of hostages, and unrestricted humanitarian access.
He reaffirmed Pakistan’s firm support for the Palestinian cause and the establishment of a sovereign, viable, and contiguous State of Palestine based on pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital, in line with UN resolutions and international legitimacy.
Pakistan Reaffirms Commitment to Peace Efforts
Pakistan reiterated its commitment to contribute constructively and meaningfully to global peace efforts in Gaza, emphasising that lasting stability can only come through justice, humanitarian relief, and the recognition of Palestinian statehood.
