Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar informed the National Assembly that Pakistan is actively pursuing diplomatic channels to ensure the safety and return of its citizens aboard the Global Sumud Flotilla, intercepted by Israeli forces. He strongly condemned the incident, calling it a violation of international maritime law and humanitarian norms.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s long-standing position, Dar said the two-state solution remains the only viable path to lasting peace, through the establishment of an independent, sovereign State of Palestine, based on pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
He highlighted Pakistan’s engagement during the 80th United Nations General Assembly session, noting Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s statements on Palestine, Jammu and Kashmir, climate justice, and reforming the global financial system. Dar also emphasised Pakistan’s diplomatic outreach, participation in high-level meetings, and advocacy for the rights of Palestinians and Kashmiris.
He referenced a joint statement issued by Pakistan and seven Arab-Islamic nations in New York, calling for unrestricted humanitarian aid to Gaza, prevention of displacement, full Israeli withdrawal, and Gaza’s reconstruction under a credible two-state framework.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said a recent statement by Hamas created a crucial window for a ceasefire, urging all sides not to let the chance for peace close. He expressed gratitude to US President Trump and the leaders of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Turkiye, Jordan, Egypt, and Indonesia for their diplomatic role at the UNGA.
The prime minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause and commitment to working with partner nations for lasting peace in the region.
