The annual Cross-Straits Youth Summit began in Beijing on Thursday, bringing together over 700 participants from various backgrounds, including youth representatives from both the Chinese mainland and Taiwan.
During the opening ceremony, Song Tao, head of the Taiwan Work Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, highlighted the important role of youth from both sides in driving national rejuvenation, which he said would also bring them shared benefits.
Song urged the younger generation to resolutely oppose separatist movements advocating “Taiwan independence” and resist foreign interference, while encouraging them to actively participate in cross-Straits exchanges and promote integrated development.
Former Kuomintang chairman Ma Ying-jeou addressed the summit via video, encouraging youth on both sides of the Straits to increase interaction, learn from one another, and work together to build a promising future for the Chinese nation.
This year’s summit also features a series of forums and an exhibition focusing on the integration of science, technology, and cultural development.
