Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi reaffirmed on Thursday that China firmly supports resolving the Ukraine crisis through peace talks and encourages efforts by all sides to achieve a comprehensive, enduring, and binding peace deal.
Speaking at a joint press conference with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul in Berlin, Wang, who is also a senior leader of the Communist Party of China, reiterated that China’s stance on the Ukraine conflict has remained consistent, calling for dialogue, refusing to supply lethal weapons to any party, and strictly controlling the export of dual-use civilian and military goods, including drones.
Wang emphasized that China has taken responsible actions on the international stage, including launching the “Friends of Peace” initiative alongside Brazil and other Global South nations at the United Nations to advocate for a ceasefire and end to hostilities. He noted that China’s impartial and balanced approach has been widely appreciated by the international community.
He quoted President Xi Jinping, saying that complex challenges rarely have simple answers, and stressed that even though differences persist among the involved parties, dialogue remains a better path than warfare.
Reflecting on Europe’s long history, Wang noted that it has repeatedly shown that even in difficult times, the door to peace and reconciliation must remain open.
He concluded by stating that China encourages all sides to take active steps toward forging a comprehensive peace agreement, fostering a balanced and sustainable European security framework, and ensuring long-term peace and stability across the continent.
