Colonel General Karim Valiyev, First Deputy Minister of Defence and Chief of the General Staff of the Azerbaijan Army, met Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at the General Headquarters (GHQ) on Wednesday to discuss matters of mutual interest and the prevailing global and regional security landscape.
COAS Munir reaffirmed Pakistan’s deep fraternal ties with Azerbaijan and reiterated the resolve to further strengthen bilateral relations. He congratulated the visiting dignitary on the successful peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia, while General Valiyev praised the professionalism of the Pakistan Armed Forces and their success in Maarka-e-Haq, Operation Bunyanum Marsoos.
Both leaders expressed a strong commitment to enhancing defence cooperation and promoting joint efforts for regional peace and stability. The Azerbaijani delegation also extended best wishes for Pakistan’s upcoming Independence Day and Victory Celebrations.
In recognition of COAS Asim Munir’s exceptional contributions to bilateral military cooperation, Colonel General Valiyev conferred Azerbaijan’s prestigious Patriotic War Medal on behalf of President Ilham Aliyev. The Azerbaijani defence chief lauded Pakistan’s unwavering fight against terrorism and reaffirmed Baku’s determination to deepen security collaboration.
Earlier, General Valiyev was presented with a guard of honour upon arrival at GHQ and laid a floral wreath at Yadgar-e-Shuhada to pay tribute to Pakistan’s martyrs.
