Pakistan on Wednesday solemnly observed the 54th martyrdom anniversary of Pilot Officer Rashid Minhas Shaheed (Nishan-e-Haider), remembering his unmatched courage and sacrifice in defence of the motherland.
The Armed Forces, led by COAS Gen. Asim Munir, CJCSC Gen. Sahir Shamshad Mirza, CNS Admiral Naveed Ashraf, and CAS Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, paid glowing tributes to Minhas, whose act of valour in 1971 remains etched in national memory.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also honoured Minhas in a statement, lauding his “extraordinary resolve, patriotism, and dedication to duty.” He said that Rashid Minhas’s supreme sacrifice to safeguard Pakistan’s sovereignty continues to inspire generations, reminding the nation of the price of freedom and the spirit required to defend it.
According to an ISPR release, Minhas’s indomitable loyalty and courage epitomise the highest traditions of the Pakistan Armed Forces. His historic choice of sacrifice over surrender serves as a timeless reminder of resilience and national pride.
The Armed Forces reaffirmed their commitment to uphold the values Rashid Minhas embraced, vowing to protect Pakistan with the same resolve. His name, they added, will forever be enshrined in history as a symbol of loyalty, courage, and sacrifice.
