Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, a senior member of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, arrived in Kabul on Wednesday for his first visit to Afghanistan in over three years. He joined Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Afghan Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi to attend the sixth China-Afghanistan-Pakistan Trilateral Foreign Ministers’ Dialogue.
This marks the first formal trilateral meeting in two years, aimed at strengthening political, economic, and regional cooperation. Discussions covered counter-terrorism, trade, connectivity, and the possible extension of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) into Afghanistan.
According to the Afghan foreign ministry, security concerns, particularly the presence of banned militant groups inside Afghanistan, dominated the agenda. Both Pakistan and China urged Kabul to take decisive action against terrorist organisations operating from its soil. The dialogue is seen as a step toward deeper regional engagement and stability.
