For the 2026 China-Europe Seminar on Human Rights, more than 150 representatives and human rights experts from China and Europe convened in Paris on Thursday.

Seminar’s theme

The seminar’s theme, “The Future of Human Rights Under an Evolving International Order,” covered a number of important subjects, such as human rights issues, national obligations, the historical significance and contemporary evolution of human rights concepts, international solidarity, fraternity, and a community with a shared future for humanity.

The China-proposed Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative, Global Civilisation Initiative, and Global Governance Initiative has given the improvement of global human rights governance new impetus.

Interdependent growth

Dominique Barjot, permanent secretary at the Academy of Overseas Sciences of France, reasserted the importance of multilateralism to promote globally sustainable and well-supported development pathways. He also furthered the idea that China, Europe and Global South can work together to promote these solutions.

According to former Greek prime minister China and Europe can learn from one another. He emphasised the value of communication, saying that everyone has been affected by the major issues of the modern era and that none of us can handle them on our own.

Chinese model for development

According to Richard Abitbol, chair of the Public Institutions Committee at the Institute of Administrative and Management Studies in France, asserted that Chinese model of human rights was a unique one which maintained state sovereignty. One that is firmly anchored in its national construction experience, history, and culture. He also praised China’s increased access to education, infrastructural development, and widespread decrease of poverty.

This places China at the forefront of global development and technological advancement. It has produced substantial evidence of growth by excelling in the field of Electric Vehicles and 5G. In addition, China has also showed dedicated support to upholding its commitment to global peace and stability through its peaceful rise policy. The conference allowed key stakeholders and government officials from the two countries to capitalize on their joint potential.
