Chinese Defence Minister Dong Jun has reiterated the military’s unwavering commitment to achieving China’s complete reunification, vowing to counter any separatist movements advocating “Taiwan independence” and firmly resist foreign military interference.
Speaking at a grand reception hosted by the Ministry of National Defence in Beijing to mark the 98th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), Dong emphasised the PLA’s strength and determination to uphold national sovereignty and regional stability. The PLA anniversary will be officially observed on August 1.
Highlighting major historical milestones, Dong noted that 2025 also commemorates 80 years since three pivotal events: the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, the restoration of Taiwan, and the founding of the United Nations.
To mark these anniversaries, China will hold a military parade on September 3 in Tian’anmen Square. According to Dong, the parade will serve as a powerful demonstration of the PLA’s discipline, military capabilities, and its enduring role in safeguarding peace and justice.
Dong also underscored the PLA’s openness to international military cooperation. He stressed that China’s armed forces are ready to collaborate with militaries worldwide to advance the vision of a shared future for humanity and support global peace, development, and environmental sustainability under the three major global initiatives.
