The Shenzhou-23 crew has officially crossed the one-month mark aboard the China Space Station. Astronauts Zhu Yangzhu, Zhang Zhiyuan, and Li Jiaying (Lai Ka-ying) continue to balance a heavy schedule of scientific experiments with the unique experiences of life in orbit.
Over the past week, the trio successfully managed a mix of advanced research and daily operational tasks in microgravity.
Advancing in Science with Shenzhou-23
The crew made significant progress in microgravity physics this week. They installed multiple experimental modules and performed essential maintenance across the station. Their technical tasks included replacing samples in the containerless experiment chamber, servicing axial mechanism electrodes, and cleaning observation window lenses.
Neuroscience and Health Tracking by Shenzhou-23
Neuroscience experiments also moved forward. Using specialized electroencephalogram (EEG) gear, the astronauts tested their visual-motor processing and behavioral responses to shifting light conditions. They will transmit this data back to Earth for scientists to study further.
For long-term health monitoring, the crew used a traditional Chinese medicine diagnostic device to gather physiological data. They also used onboard equipment for targeted workouts to fight bone density loss and keep up their physical fitness.
Daily Life and Space Kitchen Comforts
Between experiments, the astronauts kept the station running smoothly by organizing cargo and materials. They also enjoyed some comfort food in the space kitchen, using the space oven to bake pumpkin cubes. Enjoying the sweet treat brought a welcome taste of home to their home in the stars.
