China has called on all parties to exercise restraint and prevent the Middle East from descending into further instability, following an emergency UN Security Council meeting on Iran. Sun Lei, China’s deputy permanent representative to the UN, stressed that Iran’s internal affairs should be decided by its people and opposed any threats or use of force.
Sun criticized repeated open threats of military action by the United States, urging adherence to the UN Charter and international law. He highlighted that sovereign equality and non-interference are fundamental to international relations, rejecting unilateral actions that violate global norms.
China affirmed support for safeguarding Iran’s sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity. Sun Lei urged the international community to assist Iran in overcoming challenges peacefully, emphasizing that dialogue, not force, is the path to stability. He stressed that history has shown arbitrary interference only fuels conflict and that global cooperation is essential for peace and development.
