Pakistan has inaugurated its first public-private genomics venture with Chinese collaboration, marking a major step toward scientific independence. The initiative brings together national research centers and Chinese experts to advance DNA sequencing, genome mapping, and biotechnological applications for agriculture, healthcare, and disease diagnostics, creating a foundation for high-tech innovation in the country.
The project establishes local capabilities for clinical genetic testing, pathogen detection, and improvements in crop and livestock genetics. By reducing dependency on foreign laboratories, it cuts costs, accelerates research, and enables scientists, farmers, and medical professionals to access cutting-edge genomic tools directly within Pakistan.
Officials emphasized that the venture strengthens Pakistan-China scientific cooperation under CPEC Phase-II. Beyond boosting agriculture and healthcare, it positions Pakistan as a regional hub for genomic research, biotechnology development, and innovation, opening opportunities for economic growth, high-tech jobs, and global collaboration.
