China on Monday urged the European Union to halt actions that undermine the legitimate interests of Chinese companies without factual justification, warning that Beijing will take necessary steps to defend their lawful rights.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun made these remarks during a regular press briefing in response to the EU’s new sanctions against Russia, which include several Chinese firms and banks.
Guo stressed that China has consistently opposed unilateral sanctions lacking a basis in international law and not approved by the United Nations Security Council.
On the Ukraine conflict, he reiterated China’s commitment to facilitating peace talks, noting that China has not supplied lethal weapons to either side and maintains strict oversight of dual-use exports.
He further emphasized that normal economic and trade cooperation between Chinese and Russian businesses should not be disrupted or politicized.
