China will continue to stand by Iran in defending its national sovereignty and dignity, opposing power politics and coercion, and upholding its lawful rights through political dialogue, said Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. He emphasized China’s support for Iran’s commitment to good-neighborly relations and its ongoing efforts to build strong ties with surrounding countries.
Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made these remarks in Tianjin during his meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers.
He noted that as a comprehensive strategic partner, China is ready to work with Iran to deepen mutual trust, boost cooperation, broaden exchanges, and promote the stable, long-term growth of their bilateral relationship.
Araghchi expressed gratitude for China’s continued support and commended its leadership in the SCO and preparations for the upcoming Tianjin Summit. He reaffirmed Iran’s willingness to increase high-level exchanges, enhance practical cooperation, and maintain strong mutual support.
The two foreign ministers also discussed the Iranian nuclear issue. Araghchi reiterated that Iran has no intention of developing nuclear weapons but insists on its legitimate right to peaceful nuclear energy. He expressed Iran’s readiness to resume negotiations with all parties under principles of equality and mutual respect to seek a political solution.
Wang responded by stressing China’s consistent opposition to the use or threat of force and its support for resolving disputes through dialogue. He acknowledged Iran’s clear stance against nuclear weapons development and its commitment to peace. Wang reaffirmed China’s support for Iran’s continued dialogue with relevant parties and its willingness to play a constructive role in resolving the nuclear issue and promoting regional stability in the Middle East.
